Quinn Blandford was born in Kentucky, where he was involved in as many musical situations that his hometown of Frankfurt could provide. These situations included marching band, community bands, concert bands, small and large jazz ensembles, percussions ensembles, garage bands, and even a Civil War reenactment group. He also began teaching private lessons and drums before leaving high school. After high school, he followed his study of music to the University of Louisville, where he earned a Bachelor of the Arts with a Jazz Emphasis, continuing to perform and teach in as many percussive settings as possible. Quinn then further pursued his education by moving to New Jersey, where he earned a Master of Music in Jazz Performance degree from William Paterson University of New Jersey. He currently performs and teaches in the New York City metropolitan area. With regards to a personal philosophy on teaching, music is and should be fun. Quinn’s approach to teaching is both traditional and modern. It is traditional in that he believes that solid fundamentals and sound technique are integral to playing well. It is modern in the sense that he doesn’t feel that there is one concrete method to follow. Rather than apply a series of books and methods to every student, he lets the interests of the student dictate how to proceed. Again, music is and should be fun.
