Policies

Dear Valued Customer:

Thank you for your interest in musical instruction from Raritan Music Center (RMC). PLease find listed below a brief description of our services and an explanation of our payment and cancellation policies.

Private Instruction

Music lessons at RMC are private, one-on-one insturction scheduled at a mutually agreed upon time between teacher and student. Lessons are scedhuled in half hour, 45 minute and one hour time slots. The duration of the lesson is based upon the student's ability and may increase as he or she develops musically. Parents of younger children may sit in on lessons in the beginning so that they may better help their child practice at home. This may continue until the teacher decides this becomes a distraction to the lesson.

Group Instruction

We have launched our Rock Ensemble Program in conjunction with Sonic Boom Recording Studio. See our brochures for details on how to learn to rock and record like a real rock band. Our Jazz Ensemble will be joined by a Big Band Jazz Orchestra and we will be adding Songwriting Classes and offering recording opportunities to further round out our students' musical experience. These programs will take place at our newest location at 7 1st Avenue in Raritan. See the office for details and pricing.

Recitals/Performances

Each student will be given the opportunity to perform at our annual recitals, usually held over a two weekend period between late May and mid June. Additionally, students are introduced to local and state competitions as they become available throughout the year.

Choice of Teacher

All instructors at RMC are qualified teachers with varying degrees of education and experience. Every effort is made to match the student's ability and interest with the appropriate teacher. If a customer feels that the teacher selected is not a good match, the office will attempt to schedule with another teacher subject to schedule availability. All teachers' background information is available from the office upon request.

Lesson Cancellations

Consistent and regular instruction is vital to a student's musical development. Please do your best to keep your regularly scheduled lesson time. Teachers will be available, and accordingly will be paid, for scheduled lesson times. One missed or cancelled lesson will be made up each quarter. This cancellation will be accepted for any reason and will be kept track of and enforced by the office at RMC. Subsequent cancellations may be made up if a teacher's schedule permits. These are at the discretion of the teacher and are not a mandatory part of their job description at RMC.

Refunds

A refund will be issued for the following - lessons not made up due to teacher cancellation and lessons not made up due to inclement weather or building related emergencies.

Tuition

Tuition is based on a 4 week month. Occasionally there will be a month with 5 weeks of lessons. When this occurs, the extra day may be used for make-up time or, if mutually agreed upon by student and teacher, used as a day off. The option to pay for an additionally lesson on that day is also available.

Parking

You may park in the numbered parking spaces behind the 55 West Somerset Street building. Parking is available on West Somerset Street as well as along side streets. Parking for the 7 1st Avenue studios is in front of the building along 1st Avenue. Please refrain from parking in Mug's parking spots and in illegal parking spaces on the streets.

As always, thank you for your patronage,

Tuition

We have made every effort over the past four years to keep our tuition fees constant, even as our own expenses have risen. Our main focus is to provide professional and friendly service to our customers. We pride ourselves in having a very diverse and specialized teaching staff who tailor their lessons to the needs of individual students. To continue providing this high level of service to you, our valued customers, we find we have no alternative but to announce a nominal increase in our tuition fees. Effective with the September 2011 payment, updated tuition costs can be found listed below.

We must insist on the full tuition cost on or before the first lesson of every month from every customer, no exceptons. If payment is not received, or arranged for, by the first scheduled lesson, the student may lose his or her reserved lesson slot and the second lesson may not be permitted.

Prorated payments will not be accepted for any reason unless first authorized by the office, as in the case of studio closings. This will allow Raritan Music Center to cut down on bookkeeping and overhead costs.

For the mutual benefit of the customers and the Raritan Music Center Staff, insisting that the tuition payment be received on or before the first lesson of every month will allow our office to better organize schedules and arrange make-up lessons for our valued customers. In addition, the Raritan Music Center teachers will be able to keep track of each lesson more efficiently. This will allow for better communication between the customers, teachers, and the office.

If you are due make-up lessons or a refund for any reason, this will be handled by the Raritan Music Center office.

We hope you understand this enforcement of our Fall 2011 Payment Policy. Thank you for choosing Raritan Music Center
